Literary workshops and reading initiatives launched in Brazil
Various cultural initiatives in Brazil are launching free programs to promote reading and literary training.
In Pernambuco, the “Ler pra Ser – Rede de Experiências” project, organized by Liga Criativa and supported by the Fundo Pernambucano de Incentivo à Cultura, has opened registrations for literary workshops. The program will take place in eight municipalities—Limoeiro, Palmares, Joaquim Nabuco, Camaragibe, Passira, Nazaré da Mata, Caruaru, and Vicência—between November 3 and 11. The initiative aims to train community agents and includes the use of “Caixas de Histórias,” which are mobile libraries designed to bring books closer to local readers.
In Rio de Janeiro, the “Rotas e Redes Literárias” project is hosting free activities in Manguinhos. Produced by Sapoti Projetos Culturais and sponsored by the Instituto Brasileiro de Oftamologia, the program includes training workshops for educators and storytelling sessions led by professionals such as Sílvia Castro and Verônica dos Santos. The project focuses on expanding book access through educator training, author meetings, and book donations to local schools and community institutions.
