Literature explores the housing crisis through five books

Five books explore the theme of the housing crisis and the difficulties of finding affordable living spaces.

Llucia Ramis’s ‘Un metro cuadrado’ provides a chronicle of the spaces the author has inhabited or been forced to leave in Spain. Rafael Azcona’s ‘El pisito’ offers a historical perspective, depicting a couple’s struggle to find a home in Madrid in the late 1950s.

Simon Chevrier’s ‘Foto por privado’ examines the challenges faced by modern youth, including precarious work and shared housing. Rodrigo Gervasi’s ‘La grieta’ follows a young man’s attempt to establish independence and roots in Madrid. Finally, ‘Idealista’ addresses the contemporary reality of searching for housing through digital platforms.
