Recent literary releases and guides have focused on themes of middle age and the transitions of life.

In Japan, a book guide highlights several works exploring the complexities of midlife, including Kaito Tohata’s ‘Middle Age Begins’, which uses interviews to navigate the sense of being lost in middle age. Other featured titles include Mili Masuda’s ‘The Night I Got Bored of Middle Age’, which uses humor to depict the experiences of 50-year-olds, and Chiyo Fujino’s ‘Danchi no Futari’, a novel about the companionship and economic realities of two single women living in their 50s.

Additionally, the Japanese translation of Miranda July’s latest novel, ‘How to Crawl’ (translated by Sachiko Kishimoto), has been released by Shinchosha. The work, which has received significant acclaim in the United States, tackles themes of middle age and menopause through the perspective of a 45-year-old artist. The novel explores bodily changes, marriage, and identity, earning praise from international critics for its bold and human portrayal of these life stages.
