Literature updates: Josje Weusten debut and Hoogstins weekly top 10

Josje Weusten has released her debut novel, ‘Valse waarheden’ (originally published in English as ‘Fake Fish’), through Iceberg Books. Weusten, a literature lecturer at Maastricht University, explores the tension between truth and identity in the age of artificial intelligence. The narrative is split into two parts: the first follows a film student entangled in a scandal caused by a deepfake video, while the second is set twenty years in the future in a world where AI has been banned.

In other literary news, Hoogstins has released its top 10 book list for week 39. The list features works by authors such as Yotam Ottolenghi and Connie Palmen. A featured reading recommendation is ‘Zeven rivieren’ by Vanessa Taylor, which examines the historical and environmental impact of major rivers including the Mississippi, Nile, Thames, Ganges, Niger, Danube, and Yangtze.
