Lithgow police charge two after stolen utility vehicle is destroyed by fire

An 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy have been charged following the theft and destruction of a Holden utility vehicle in Lithgow.

According to police, the vehicle was stolen from a Mort Street home on August 31. Shortly after the theft, the utility crashed into a fence at a property on Reid Avenue. The following morning, emergency services responded to a vehicle fire on Hassans Walls Road; while the NSW Rural Fire Service extinguished the blaze, the vehicle was destroyed.

Following a search warrant in Lithgow and a foot pursuit in Wallerawang, an 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with stealing a motor vehicle, driving as an unaccompanied learner, and damaging property by fire or explosives. A 14-year-old boy was also charged with being carried in a conveyance taken without consent. Both individuals have been granted strict conditional bail.
