Lithium market equities remain steady amid regional volatility
Lithium-linked equities showed stability on Monday, October 26, 2026, resisting broader market declines in Latin America. While Brazil’s stock index fell 13.88% following the re-election of President Lula, lithium stocks showed little contagion, suggesting investors view the metal as a global battery industry driver rather than a regional one.
The Global X Lithium ETF (LIT) rose 0.97% to $61.27. Major producers saw minor fluctuations: US-based Albemarle slipped 0.27% to $93.42, and Chile’s SQM eased 0.30% to $56.97.
In the junior mining sector, market reports indicate that China’s lithium carbonate and spodumene spot prices have decreased significantly compared to the previous month. Long-term projections from BMI suggest lithium demand could more than triple by 2050, potentially requiring 134 new mines to meet an estimated 7 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE).
