Lithium mining projects advance in Chile and Argentina
In Chile, the Ministry of Mining has resubmitted a Special Lithium Operation Contract (CEOL) to the Comptroller General for the Kuska project at the Ollagüe salt flat. Led by Canadian company Wealth Minerals, the project involves a planned investment of US$ 749 million. The company aims to secure all permits within three years, with construction starting in 2029 and lithium production expected between 2030 and 2031.
In Argentina, Lake Resources has received environmental approval from the Catamarca Ministry of Mining for its Kachi lithium brine project. This environmental impact declaration allows the project to proceed to the front-end engineering and design (FEED) stage. As part of its social commitment, Lake Resources has pledged US$ 1 million to the Mining Royalty Trust Fund of Catamarca to support local infrastructure. The project includes a 200-metre exclusion zone around the lagoon shoreline to protect the local ecosystem.
