Lithuania has commenced ‘Vyčio skliautas 2026’, its largest annual national mobilization system exercise. Running from September 25 to October 3, the drills involve approximately 3,000 state and municipal officials, representatives from various organizations, and 1,000 volunteers.

The exercise tests the country's readiness for complex crises, including potential military incursions from Belarus, energy and communication disruptions, and the transition to a mobilization regime. For the first time, the state is testing its detailed population evacuation plan, simulating the movement of residents from Vilnius and border municipalities to safer areas.

A key component of the drills will occur on September 29, when the national warning system is tested. This includes the use of sirens, mobile phone alerts, and the ‘LT72’ emergency application. Officials emphasized that the exercises are educational and designed to ensure the continuity of government functions and the ability of institutions to make independent decisions during emergencies. Daily life and essential services are expected to continue without disruption.
