Lithuania begins moose, red deer, and wildfowl hunting season

The hunting season for moose, red deer, and wildfowl has commenced in Lithuania, according to the Ministry of Environment. For the current season, a limit of 3,935 moose may be hunted.

Regarding red deer, hunting for males is permitted from August 15 until February 28, while females and juveniles may be hunted from September 1 until January 15. Notably, hunting limits for red deer have not been established for the second consecutive year. Moose hunting schedules vary by type: males until December 15, females from October 1 to November 30, and juveniles until January 31.

Wildfowl hunting is also underway, with mallards, gadwalls, pochards, and Canada geese permitted until December 15, and wood ducks and teal permitted until November 30.

The Ministry emphasizes the principle of selective hunting, where weaker animals are culled to protect healthy populations. Hunters must possess valid documentation, including hunting licenses and permits. To prevent environmental damage, the use of lead ammunition is prohibited within 100 meters of wetlands.
