Lithuania detains irregular migrants attempting to travel to Western Europe

Lithuanian border guards have detained three irregular migrants attempting to travel to Germany and one Afghan woman attempting to fly to Austria using fraudulent documents.

At Vilnius Airport, officers intercepted two Algerian men attempting to board a flight to Berlin. One individual, a 20-year-old, had previously entered Latvia illegally from Belarus and escaped from an asylum seeker center in Muceniekai near Riga. The second Algerian man, aged 21, followed a similar path, traveling by train to Vilnius after fleeing the same asylum center. Both men were transferred to the Foreigners Registration Center.

In the Pasvalys district, authorities stopped a bus traveling from Tallinn to Berlin during a routine check.

Additionally, border guards at Vilnius Airport detained a 24-year-old Afghan woman who attempted to board a flight to Vienna. She used an expired German identity card and a flight ticket purchased under another person's name. The woman detailed an irregular journey from Afghanistan through Iran, Turkey, and Greece before arriving in Lithuania. A pre-trial investigation has been launched regarding the illegal possession and use of foreign documents.
