Lithuania is considering the hosting of additional United States troops as Washington conducts a review of its military footprint across Europe. Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas stated that while discussions are ongoing and various options are being considered, no final decision has been made regarding the specific size of any potential deployment.

Lithuania has previously indicated its capacity and infrastructure are prepared to accommodate up to 1,500 U.S. troops. Since 2019, the United States has regularly deployed battalion-sized contingents to the country, transitioning to continuous rotational deployments following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Darius Jauniškis, Lithuania’s ambassador to NATO, noted that Vilnius has received positive signals from Washington regarding the maintenance of a U.S. presence. He indicated that while the necessity and possibility of troops in Lithuania are recognized by the U.S., specific details and personnel numbers remain under discussion.
