Lithuania electric vehicle registrations surge amid new state subsidies

The electric vehicle (EV) market in Lithuania is experiencing significant growth. The Environmental Management Projects Agency (APVA) has announced a new phase of support, allocating 20 million euros—12 million for individuals and 8 million for legal entities—to encourage sustainable transport. This follows an initial 35 million euros allocated earlier this year.

Data indicates that EV registrations in Lithuania rose by 32.3% in July compared to the previous year, with the Toyota bZ4X being a popular model. Between January and July, 2,428 electric vehicles were registered, representing a 53.4% increase over the same period last year. The market share of EVs has grown from 5.9% to 7.8%.

While the number of charging stations is increasing, experts suggest the primary challenge is no longer infrastructure density, but rather incentivizing drivers to transition from diesel to electric. Currently, battery electric vehicles (BEV) make up less than 10% of the total vehicle fleet in Lithuania.
