Lithuania faces cybersecurity skills gap amid security conference announcement

Lithuania is facing a significant shortage of high-level cybersecurity specialists despite an increase in graduates. A study commissioned by the Ministry of National Defence revealed that while over 400 students completed cybersecurity studies in the last three years, 98 percent of employers still report a lack of necessary competencies. Experts note that the issue is not a lack of diplomas, but a lack of practical experience and the time required to develop high-level expertise through real-world incident analysis and pressure.

In response to evolving security needs, the ‘Saugumo kodas’ (Security Code) conference is scheduled for October 9, 2026, at Vilnius TECH (Vilnius Gediminas Technical University). The event expects over 3,000 participants and 150 speakers to discuss physical, cyber, economic, and psychological security. The conference will also feature the ‘People Who Protect’ awards, recognizing excellence in firefighting, policing, border guarding, and environmental protection.
