Lithuania faces increasing climate risks through 2035
Climatologist Silvestras Dikčius warns that Lithuania must prepare for more frequent extreme weather events over the next decade. Key projected changes include more frequent hot days, tropical nights where temperatures remain above 20 degrees Celsius, shorter and less stable winters, and intense rainfall leading to local flooding.
Despite the potential for more rain, the risk of drought remains due to unpredictable precipitation distribution. Data from the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service indicates that between 1961 and 2025, the country's average annual temperature has risen by approximately 0.4 degrees Celsius per decade. The year 2025 was noted as being one degree warmer than the 1991–2020 norm.
