Lithuania focuses on regional development and cultural preservation

Discussions regarding Lithuania’s regional development and the preservation of Lithuanian identity in Poland have highlighted the importance of localized strategies and cultural institutions.

In Lithuania, regional development councils are currently defining priorities for the post-2027 period to guide European Union investment. Experts emphasize that a one-size-fits-all approach is insufficient, as different regions face distinct challenges, such as labor shortages, infrastructure needs, and varying access to healthcare and education. There is a growing call for regional policy to be shaped by local communities rather than being centralized solely in Vilnius.

In Poland, the Punsk Kovo 11-osios Lithuanian Lyceum recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. As the only Lithuanian secondary school in Poland, the institution serves as a vital center for Lithuanian culture and identity in the Sejny-Punsk region. The school, which was established in 1956, has historically acted as a cradle for the Lithuanian intelligentsia in Poland, maintaining its cultural mission despite past pressures of assimilation.
