Lithuania implements salmon and grayling fishing restrictions
New fishing restrictions for salmon and grayling will take effect in Lithuania from September 16 to October 15 in specific river sections. During this period, anglers in designated areas must possess an angler card, regardless of the method used or the species targeted. An exception applies to those with free fishing rights, though they may only fish without artificial bait or live bait in these sections.
Night fishing is restricted; fishing is prohibited more than one hour after sunset and more than one hour before sunrise. Additionally, certain river stretches listed in official regulations are entirely off-limits during this timeframe.
In the Neris River, specifically between the Žirmūnai and Valakupių bridges in Vilnius, the use of artificial bait or live bait is prohibited from September 16 until December 31. Furthermore, all salmon and grayling caught between September 16 and December 31 must be released. Anglers are only permitted to keep these species during the post-spawning period, from January 1 to April 30, provided they hold a valid angler card. To ensure fish survival upon release, authorities recommend using rubber-netted landing grips and keeping hands wet to protect the fish's protective slime layer.
