Lithuania inflation rises to 5.9% amid surging producer costs
Lithuania's annual inflation reached 5.9% in July, according to recent data. This follows a June inflation rate of 5.4%, which was the second highest in the European Union, surpassed only by Romania.
While consumer price inflation remains at 5.9%, producer price inflation shows significantly higher pressure. In July, the prices of industrial products sold in Lithuania rose by 11.5% compared to the previous year. This represents an acceleration from June, when the increase was 9.6%.
When excluding petroleum products, the annual increase for industrial products sold in the Lithuanian market was 7.5%. Experts suggest that the widening gap between producer and consumer prices serves as a warning for the autumn, as the higher costs in the supply chain may eventually be passed on to end consumers.
