Lithuania launches “Earth Case” environmental education project
The “Earth Case” (Žemės byla) educational project has been launched in Lithuania to teach students about environmental protection through investigative methods. Instead of traditional lectures, students act as “green detectives” to solve environmental cases involving topics such as river pollution, climate change, waste reduction, and biodiversity loss.
Developed by the Environmental Protection Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Lithuanian Geological Survey, the project provides free educational materials for teachers. The curriculum is tailored for all ages, from preschool to 12th grade. Younger children engage through play and interactive tasks, while older students perform data analysis, participate in simulations, and engage in debates regarding real-world environmental scenarios.
