Lithuania launches national suicide prevention initiative
The Lithuanian Seimas Suicide and Violence Prevention Commission has launched the initiative ‘I contribute to suicide prevention’ to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10. The campaign aims to raise public awareness, encourage open dialogue about mental health, and reduce the stigma surrounding suicide.
Participants are encouraged to show support by lighting buildings in yellow, wearing yellow ribbons, and hosting discussions regarding emotional health and available psychological support. The commission has called upon institutions, organizations, and communities across the country to join the effort.
In Visaginas, the municipality has confirmed its participation by planning to illuminate the municipal building in yellow on the evening of September 10. The local initiative emphasizes that suicide prevention is a collective community responsibility rather than a task solely for specialists.
