Lithuania loses right to host 2027 Modern Pentathlon World Cup
The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) has revoked Lithuania's right to host a Modern Pentathlon World Cup event, which was scheduled to take place in Kaunas from April 13–17, 2027.
The decision follows the Lithuanian Modern Pentathlon Federation's refusal to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in its competitions. Justinas Kinderis, president of the Lithuanian federation, expressed disappointment and frustration, noting that preparatory work and service provider contracts were already underway.
Kinderis indicated that the federation had been repeatedly questioned by UIPM leadership regarding their stance on Russian and Belarusian athletes. There are concerns that this decision may also jeopardize Lithuania's rights to host a 2028 World Cup stage and upcoming junior and youth championships.
