Lithuania lowers minimum down payment for first-time homebuyers

As of August 1, 2026, updated Responsible Lending regulations from the Bank of Lithuania have lowered the minimum required down payment for certain first-time homebuyers in Lithuania from 15% to 10%.

This reduction is not universal. To qualify for the 10% down payment, the individual must be purchasing or building their first residential property and must not have owned any real estate—including garages, garden houses, or shares in property—within the last five years.

Even if these criteria are met, the lower threshold is an option rather than a guarantee. Lenders retain the authority to require a higher down payment based on the borrower's financial standing, the specific risks associated with the property, or other individual circumstances.
