Lithuania marks European Heritage Days with cultural events

In celebration of European Heritage Days, various cultural events are scheduled across Lithuania to explore history and preservation.

In Vilkaviškis, the public library will host an event focusing on the history of the Žiburio Gymnasium. The institution saw significant development in the 1920s under director Antanas Juška, characterized by increased discipline, the establishment of various pedagogical and health commissions, and the growth of student organizations such as scouts and the Riflemen's Union.

In Vilnius, the Martynas Mažvydas National Library will host a public discussion titled ‘Heritage 2.0. Between Memory and the Future’. The debate will address the complexities of urban heritage preservation, questioning how historical buildings can be adapted for modern use—such as the former Lukiškių Prison or the St. James Quarter—without losing their intrinsic historical value or becoming disconnected from contemporary city life.
