Lithuania Ministry of Education announces wage increases and curriculum reforms

The Lithuanian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport has outlined key initiatives following the first 100 working days of the current government. A primary focus includes a proposed budget increase for salaries, aiming for a 7.56 percent rise for teachers, lecturers, scientific researchers, and state or municipal sports coaches starting January 1, 2027.

Educational reforms also include increasing the number of Lithuanian language lessons in minority schools, raising weekly hours from five to seven for grades 1–4. Additionally, the ministry has updated general education programs for subjects such as mathematics, history, biology, physics, geography, and informatics to reduce complexity and improve learning continuity.

To support educators, the ‘Teachers’ Line’ was launched in October, providing free psychological and legal assistance.
