Lithuania: Pension accounting units for those exiting savings system

Citizens withdrawing from the pension savings system during the transition period, between January 1, 2026, and December 31, 2027, will have their state and Sodra contributions converted into pension accounting units.

While individuals retain their own contributions and investment results, the portions paid by the state and Sodra are transferred back to Sodra and converted into these units. In the third quarter, the average amount transferred to Sodra per person was 2,763 euros, an increase of approximately 160 euros compared to the second quarter. A total of 132 million euros has been transferred to the Sodra reserve fund.

On average, those exiting the system acquire 1.12 pension accounting units. Approximately 56 percent of participants will receive up to one unit, while 14 percent will receive more than two units. The highest recorded amount for a single participant is nearly 25 units. Individuals can check their specific number of units via their personal Sodra accounts.
