Lithuania prepares for 2027 EU Council Presidency

Lithuania is preparing for its presidency of the Council of the European Union, scheduled for the first half of 2027. During this period, the country will moderate negotiations and seek compromises among the 27 EU member states, representing the Council in relations with other EU institutions.

Key priorities on the European agenda during this term are expected to include the war in Ukraine, EU security strengthening, relations with the United States, economic competitiveness, energy resilience, EU enlargement, and budget negotiations. The presidency offers Lithuania a platform to demonstrate its diplomatic capabilities and promote its national interests and cultural heritage on a broader European stage.

As part of the preparations, the first International Religious Tourism Forum, titled ‘Faith, Heritage and Tourism’, will be held on October 1–2 in Raseiniai and Šiluva. The event aims to integrate Lithuania’s religious and cultural heritage into international travel routes and foster cooperation between European pilgrimage centers and tourism professionals.
