Lithuania President appoints Liudvika Meškauskaitė to LRT Council

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has appointed legal expert and academic Liudvika Meškauskaitė to the Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) Council. Meškauskaitė replaces Giedrius Jucevičius following his resignation.

The appointment has sparked political debate regarding the depoliticization of the council. Meškauskaitė, who specializes in media, human rights, and constitutional law, has already identified areas for improvement within the public broadcaster. She emphasized the need for greater pluralism of opinions, increased cultural programming, and addressed concerns regarding financial management and the perceived politicization of journalists. She stated that the public broadcaster should not contribute to social division.
