Lithuania President rejects possibility of U.S. military withdrawal

President Gitanas Nausėda has dismissed the possibility that United States military forces will cease their presence in Lithuania. Speaking on Žinių radijas, Nausėda noted that the U.S. has not yet finalized its military force deployment planning process.

He emphasized that the ongoing planning serves as an indication that the United States views Lithuania as a serious strategic partner that fulfills its commitments. While Nausėda did not provide specific dates for future rotations to avoid appearing unreliable if schedules shift, he noted that the possibility of increased qualitative or quantitative rotations remains open.

This follows the departure of over a thousand U.S. troops from Lithuania this summer. Defense Minister Romas Kaunas previously indicated that most new U.S. military capabilities should reach Lithuania within the year, and Lithuanian military commander Raimundas Vaikšnoras has stated that the U.S. is honoring its commitments regarding troop rotations.
