Lithuania promotes free cardiovascular health screenings
The Lithuanian government is urging citizens to utilize state-funded health screening programs to prevent early mortality. Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius and cabinet members emphasized the importance of monitoring cardiovascular health indicators, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose levels.
Cardiovascular diseases account for more than 50 percent of all deaths in Lithuania. To combat this, the state has implemented a prevention and early diagnosis program. In 2025, 70 million euros from the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund were allocated to various prevention programs, with half of that amount dedicated specifically to cardiovascular health.
Individuals between the ages of 40 and 60 can access these health checks free of charge by contacting their family doctors. Officials noted that early detection allows for lifestyle changes and timely medical intervention, serving as an investment in long-term health.
