Lithuania proposes PPP model for Kaunas-Prienai road reconstruction

The Ministry of Transport has proposed a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to reconstruct an 8-kilometer stretch of the Kaunas-Prienai road, specifically the section from kilometer 11.6 to 19.48. Under the plan prepared by Via Lietuva, construction would take place between 2028 and 2030, followed by a 15-year period of maintenance and renewal by a private partner lasting until 2045.

The total nominal value of payments to the private partner is estimated at 315.7 million euros, with average annual payments of approximately 11.8 million euros. The project aims to address significant infrastructure issues, including surface damage and ruts up to 5 centimeters deep. The Ministry expects the project to provide social and economic benefits, such as improved safety, reduced travel times, and lower environmental impact.
