Lithuania proposes real-time fuel price reporting

Lithuanian Energy Minister Lukas Savickas and members of the Seimas have proposed amendments to the Energy Law to introduce real-time reporting of fuel prices. The initiative aims to increase transparency and competition among gas stations, as price discrepancies between nearby locations can currently reach several dozen cents.

Under the proposal, gas stations would be required to immediately report any price changes to the Lithuanian Energy Agency via an electronic tool. This data would be provided in an open format, allowing developers to integrate real-time updates into navigation apps and other mobile platforms. This would enable drivers to identify the cheapest fuel options before arriving at a station. Currently, the Energy Agency's fuel price map is only updated once every business morning.
