Lithuania records highest summer insurance claims in three years

Lithuania has experienced its highest number of insurance claims in three years due to severe summer weather. According to data from BTA Insurance, 1,539 damage claims were registered this summer, representing a 30 percent increase compared to the summer of 2024 and a more than threefold increase compared to the previous year.

August was the most impactful month, accounting for 1,222 of the total claims. The primary causes of damage included storms (750 cases), strong winds (518 cases), heavy rainfall (231 cases), and hail (40 cases).

Most reported damages involved residential properties, including roof damage, flooded rooms, and structural issues caused by falling trees or branches. Vehicle damage was also significant due to falling debris and hail. BTA Insurance has already paid out nearly 826,000 euros in claims, with the total amount expected to rise as assessments continue.
