Lithuania tests food supply resilience during crisis exercises
During the ‘Vyčio skliautas 2026’ exercises, Lithuania tested its ability to maintain food supplies to the population during a crisis scenario involving disrupted supply chains and shortages in major retail centers.
The Ministry of Agriculture utilized the Lithuanian Agricultural and Food Products Market Information System (LŽŪMPRIS), managed by the Agricultural Data Center, to map essential food products. This data-driven approach aims to identify producers, production volumes, and distribution needs across different regions to ensure rapid response during emergencies.
As part of the practical training, a portion of the state food reserve—consisting of grains, flour, and oil—was used to feed participants in Lazdijai. This test was designed to evaluate the procedures for releasing reserves and the level of cooperation with economic entities within the supply chain.
