Lithuania to build new NATO military camp near Belarus border

Lithuania has announced the construction of a new military camp at the Rudninkai training base near the border with Belarus. The project, estimated to cost 40 million euros, is designed to accommodate over 1,000 NATO soldiers participating in regional exercises.

The facility will cover approximately seven hectares and include residential buildings, support structures, technical infrastructure, and transport links. Construction is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2028.

The camp will serve as a primary base for the German Panzerbrigade 45, which is currently being established in Lithuania as a response to security concerns regarding Russia. While approximately 2,000 brigade members are already stationed in the country, the unit is expected to reach full combat capability by 2027 with a total strength of 4,800 soldiers and 200 civilian employees.
