Lithuania to build schools for incoming German military brigade

The Lithuanian government is planning to construct a new school in Vilnius and reconstruct an existing school in Kaunas to accommodate the educational needs of the incoming German military brigade. A draft resolution from the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport indicates that approximately 56.6 million euros will be allocated for this infrastructure.

The new school in Vilnius, located on Drujos g. 11, is intended for 500–600 students, while the reconstruction in Kaunas on Verkių g. 30 will serve about 200 students. This move addresses the current lack of educational infrastructure for the personnel and families of the German brigade.

Construction of the second stage of the Rūdninkai military town is already underway, with the first soldiers expected to arrive this autumn. The German brigade, which will include approximately 5,000 soldiers and civilians, is expected to reach full operational capability by 2027. The military base in Rūdninkai will cover approximately 190 hectares and is located near the border with Belarus.
