Lithuania to invest 5.38% of GDP in defense by 2026
Lithuania has announced plans to invest 5.38 percent of its GDP into defense by 2026, the highest proportion among NATO members. The nation aims to transition from a consumer of security to a provider for the alliance and Europe at large.
To achieve this, Lithuania is focusing its defense-industrial efforts on four strategic areas: the production of ammunition, explosives, and energetic materials; the development of drone and anti-drone technologies, including electronic warfare; the production, maintenance, and repair of military equipment; and maritime defense to strengthen security in the Baltic Sea region and the NATO eastern flank.
