Lithuania to reimburse new cancer and growth disorder medications

Starting September 1, new medications will be covered by the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund (PSDF) in Lithuania. The expansion includes nine new drugs for various forms of cancer, two drugs for patients with lipoprotein metabolism disorders following cardiovascular events, one drug for hereditary high cholesterol, and one drug for childhood growth disorders.

Specific treatments added to the list include somatropin for growth disorders, several drugs for cancers of the cervix, lungs, bladder, ovaries, and skin melanoma, as well as asciminib for chronic myeloid leukemia. Additionally, evolocumab and inclisiran will be available for patients with lipoprotein metabolism disorders who have suffered myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke.

Health Deputy Minister Daniel Naumovas stated that these medications were previously on a reserve list awaiting funding. The expansion is expected to cost approximately 13.3 million euros from the PSDF budget between September and December. Furthermore, starting November 1, the list will include Lutathera for treating certain neuroendocrine tumors.
