Lithuania uncovers Belarus tunnel network and moves to tighten sanctions on pro‑Russian citizens

Lithuanian border guards have uncovered a series of tunnels dug from Belarus into Lithuania that are being used to smuggle illegal migrants. The VSAT chief Rustamas Liubajevas said dozens of sites have been identified and the tunnels have been sealed, describing the activity as part of Belarus’s hybrid‑warfare strategy under President Alexander Lukashenko.

At the same time, Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has proposed amendments to its restrictive‑measures law to broaden bans on Russian and Belarusian individuals who support the Kremlin. The draft would bar such persons from public activities in education, science, culture, sport, arts and entertainment, and would tighten rules on property purchases near strategic installations, aiming to curb soft‑power influence and strengthen societal resilience.
