Lithuania heating costs projected to rise amid higher biomass prices

Lithuanian residents face a projected 15–30% increase in heating costs for the upcoming season. This rise is primarily driven by a 50–60% increase in the price of biomass, which supplies approximately 80% of the country's centralized heating needs.

Experts emphasize that building energy efficiency will play a critical role in determining final utility bills. According to the Lithuanian Association of Heat Suppliers, residents in energy-efficient, renovated buildings pay significantly less than those in unrenovated structures. Data shows that in the previous season, heating costs in renovated buildings averaged approximately 0.91 EUR/m², compared to 2.18 EUR/m² in older, uninsulated buildings.

Modernization efforts, such as installing automated and remotely managed heat points, can help mitigate these costs. Implementing smart heating systems can lead to heat savings of 15% to 30%, providing tangible relief to household budgets despite rising energy prices.
