Lithuania: Vulnerable electricity consumers using public supply double

The number of vulnerable electricity consumers in Lithuania opting for public supply has doubled. Out of approximately 412,000 eligible individuals, 283,000 have chosen the public supply tariff.

This increase follows legislative changes implemented by the Ministry of Energy, which introduced a specialized pricing structure for vulnerable consumers. Since July 1, a ‘Standard’ single-zone tariff of 20 ct/kWh has been applied to this group. The new procedures for informing and transferring consumers from independent suppliers to public supply have made it easier for eligible citizens to access lower rates.

Vulnerable consumers include individuals receiving social assistance, persons with disabilities, and those receiving minimum old-age pensions or related compensations. Energy Minister Lukas Savickas noted that a vulnerable consumer using an average of 119 kWh per month could save approximately 86 euros per year compared to offers from independent suppliers.
