Lithuania warns of new parking-related fraud targeting drivers

A new fraudulent scheme targeting drivers is spreading across Lithuania. Scammers are using multiple methods to deceive victims, including sending SMS messages regarding alleged unpaid parking fees and placing fake QR codes on parking meters and other infrastructure, particularly in Vilnius.

These methods redirect users to counterfeit payment websites that closely mimic official parking service platforms. Once on these sites, criminals attempt to steal bank card details and other personal information. Cybersecurity expert Darius Povilaitis from Telia notes that scammers create a sense of urgency by threatening significant fines to provoke hasty, unthinking decisions from drivers.

Experts advise motorists to verify all parking information and payments only through official mobile applications or verified websites, warning that legitimate service providers do not urge payments via suspicious links or random QR codes.
