Lithuanian Ambassador Varvuolis Under Probe for US Embassy Misconduct

Lithuanian embassy staff in Washington reported that ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis engaged in disrespectful conduct, raised his voice and imposed long working hours. Employees contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ inspector and the ministry clerk, seeking a response, but no formal investigation has been launched.

Members of the Lithuanian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee (URK), led by deputy chairman Žygimantas Pavilionis, called for an independent inquiry, stressing the United States as a critical strategic partner. Pavilionis urged the URM head, Kęstutis Budrys, to act promptly, warning that any signs of trouble at the embassy must be examined. He also referenced past incidents that were allegedly concealed, demanding transparency and accountability.
