Lithuanian cities celebrate World Photography Day

Lithuanian cities are organizing various events to mark World Photography Day on August 19 and the 200th anniversary of photography.

In Panevėžys, the 10th annual Photography Day parade will take place at Laisvės Square. Organized by the Panevėžys City Municipality and the North Lithuania Photographers Association, the event invites both professional and amateur photographers to participate in a living photo exhibition by carrying printed photographs. The parade will feature the Panevėžys Musical Theatre Orchestra and performers from the Panevėžys Puppet Theatre. Following the parade, an exhibition of works from the upcoming book ‘Urbanistinė impresija’ by Arvydas Gudas will be held at the Juozas Miltinis Drama Theatre.

In Alytus, the city municipality has launched an initiative for residents to vote for the most beloved Alytus photographer of 2026. Twenty-two photographers have been nominated for the award, which aims to recognize those who document the city's beauty, people, and significant moments. Voting is open to the public until August 17.
