Lithuanian cities expand support for youth sports development

Lithuanian municipalities are implementing new initiatives to support the development of young athletes through specialized education and financial investment.

In Alytus, city officials have approved the establishment of dedicated athlete classes at the Alytus Dainavos progimnazija. Following national educational regulations, these classes aim to balance academic studies with intensive training schedules. The program focuses on creating a dual-career path, allowing students to pursue high-level athletic achievements while maintaining a quality education through partnerships with sports organizations.

In Vilnius, the city is continuing its investment in youth sports for the third consecutive year. Approximately 0.5 million euros has been allocated to the ‘Young Athlete’s Basketball’ program, which will be distributed among 27 sports organizations in the capital. The funding is intended to ensure high-quality training, better competition conditions, and long-term skill development. Participating organizations must provide qualified coaches and adequate infrastructure to foster talent that can eventually represent Vilnius and Lithuania in national and international competitions.
