Lithuanian conservatives criticize Foreign Minister Budrys over foreign policy responses

The TS-LKD parliamentary faction has expressed dissatisfaction with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, claiming he failed to provide comprehensive answers to official inquiries regarding the nation's foreign policy direction.

Specific areas of concern raised by the faction include the interruption of high-level political dialogue with the United States and the status of efforts to encourage US support for Ukraine's NATO membership. Additionally, lawmakers questioned the cessation of the annual strategic dialogue with the US concerning the Indo-Pacific region, a mechanism previously shared by only a few nations.

The faction also highlighted unanswered questions regarding potential negotiations with China. They sought clarity on how such talks might impact Lithuania's strategic relationship with the US, the geopolitical and economic implications for Lithuania, and the potential effects on relations with Russia and Belarus. In response to the perceived lack of written transparency, the TS-LKD has invited Minister Budrys to a meeting with the full faction to address these issues in person.

A representative for the minister, Kristina Belikova, defended Budrys, stating that he provided detailed responses and suggested that some of the conservative claims do not align with reality.
