Lithuanian cultural events feature Vilnius Jazz and Warsaw Film Festival
The 39th Vilnius Jazz festival features a diverse program including film screenings, concerts, and the ‘Vilnius Jazz Young Power’ competition. This year’s edition emphasizes experimental sounds, including African heritage, Chicago slam poetry, and contemporary Portuguese jazz represented by collectives such as ‘Oblong Emission’ and the ‘Garfo’ quartet. Notable performers include Chicago avant-garde musician Rob Mazurek with his ‘São Paulo Underground’ trio and the ‘Exploding Star Orchestra’, as well as vocalist Marvin Tate.
In the realm of cinema, six films involving Lithuanian creators are being presented at the Warsaw Film Festival, an A-class international event. The competitive program includes the premiere of Kristijonas Vildžiūnas’s sixth feature, ‘Dice-Ching-o-Mat’, a co-production with Latvia, Estonia, and Poland. Additionally, the drama ‘Vaikas’, a joint Latvian-Lithuanian production directed by Linda Olte, is also featured in the main competition.
