Lithuanian environmental officers conduct fishing regulation raids
Environmental officers conducted a series of raids across various regions to monitor compliance with limited fishing regulations in inland waters. During the month-long operation, officials inspected 111 recreational fishers in lakes, rivers, and ponds within the controlled territories of the Vilnius, Kaunas, Panevėžys, and Šiauliai nature conservation divisions.
Authorities identified 12 violations in total. Eight of these related to breaches of amateur fishing rules, including fishing without the required permits. Seven of these fishing violations occurred in the Panevėžys region, while one was recorded in Kaunas. Additionally, three violations regarding boating conditions in protected areas were identified.
In a separate incident in the Vilnius region, officers discovered four loops intended for catching game animals inside an individual's backpack; these were confiscated and an administrative protocol was issued. Officers also seized an abandoned fishing net during the raids. The increased oversight aims to protect fish stocks and ensure fishers are aware of specific local regulations.
