Lithuanian fire brigades handle 37 storm‑related tree‑removal calls

A severe storm swept eastern Lithuania, bringing heavy rain and strong winds that toppled numerous trees. Fire and rescue crews responded 37 times nationwide to clear fallen trees and branches, with 27 calls in Vilnius County, five in Alytus County, two in Klaipėda, one in Telšiai and two in Utena.

Most incidents involved removing trees from roadways (34 cases); two required work on power lines and one on a building. The storm disrupted electricity supply for about 5,400 customers, according to the Energy Distribution Operator. Rainfall totals reached nearly 35 mm in Vilnius and 27 mm in Varėna, accompanied by thunder and gusts up to 18 m/s.

Authorities warned drivers to stay alert, report hazards, and follow temporary road signs while crews continued clearing debris and repairing infrastructure.
