Lithuanian food prices show signs of deflation amid rising energy costs

Lithuanian consumers are navigating fluctuating food prices by seeking discounts and utilizing versatile, affordable ingredients like pasta. While some staples such as beef and apples have seen price increases, there has been a recent period of food deflation, with pork, potatoes, and bread prices dropping significantly.

Economists note that while certain products have become cheaper, rising energy costs—including oil and gas—driven by geopolitical tensions may soon offset these savings. Increased business expenses related to heating and electricity are expected to eventually be passed on to consumers, potentially shifting the current deflationary trend back toward inflation.
