Lithuanian Government to visit Klaipėda to address regional issues

The Lithuanian Cabinet of Ministers is scheduled to hold a two-day visit to Klaipėda on September 8-9 to engage with local government, business, and academic communities. The visit aims to familiarize ministers with the coastal region's specific challenges and infrastructure needs.

Klaipėda Mayor Antanas Vaitkus has identified several critical issues for discussion, including the urgent need for road infrastructure improvements in the southern part of the city to support port expansion. He also highlighted the proposed €300 million carbon dioxide terminal by KN Energies, noting that a new city exit is necessary for the project. Other priorities include healthcare funding, specifically regarding the situation at Klaipėda University Hospital, and improving air connectivity via Palanga Airport.

During the visit, the delegation will inspect the Klaipėda port and liquefied natural gas terminal. A Cabinet meeting will also be held to approve the government program implementation plan, which includes goals such as developing an integrated air defense system by late 2028 and improving healthcare access timelines.
