Lithuanian gymnasium incident sparks debate over inclusive education
An incident involving physical violence occurred at a gymnasium in Lithuania, resulting in injuries to a school director and several students. Vika Gridiajeva from the Pedagogical and Psychological Service confirmed that steps are being taken to provide psychological assistance and that the Child Welfare Commission will hold a meeting to determine further actions.
Antanas Kalnius, the mayor of the district, stated that the situation is under control but raised concerns regarding inclusive education. He noted that while students with specific diagnoses are integrated into general classrooms, the municipality does not receive national budget funds to maintain necessary classroom assistants or provide adequate methodological materials. In response, the Kretinga District Pedagogical Education Center has developed its own methodology and training for assistants to address these gaps.
